Hi there, we are the Sundbergs.
Our family is supported by so many wonderful people. One of our goals for opening up our homestead is to connect with even more “neighbors” and lift each other up through learning and love.
As Mr. Rogers said,
"If you could only sense how important you are to the lives of those you meet; how important you can be to the people you may never even dream of. There is something of yourself that you leave at every meeting with another person."
When Joshua was a little boy, he wore a leather pouch around his neck. He would fill it with leaves and sticks and call it his medicine. His love for the outdoors was evident. You had to drag him inside for meals and his shoes were always muddy. (Nothing has changed.) It’s no surprised he felt called to study Herbalism at SWIHA and has spent the last ten years working in gardens all over Arizona. But don’t ask him “how to” grow anything. Josh is known for his teach-a-man-to-fish methods and is deeply passionate about inspiring each individual to find their personal connection with nature. He’s our resident Dr. Dolittle; animals seriously look him straight in the eye and listen to his calming words. This home is his sanctuary. He’s up with the sun and his morning routine is sacred. Find him on the porch and he’ll be happy to pour you a steaming cup of his mushroom brew.
Atticus Ryan has his Dad’s lanky limbs and sharp wit. You’ll find him building computers and climbing trees. Watch out world, he’s almost on the road.
Jilliann has a tattoo that epitomizes her energy: a Talavera tile of a bird on a branch (it’s on the wall of the restroom at The Blue House in Coyoacán). Mercury and vata forces give her the wings to do anything she puts her mind to, but she must periodically land on a tree to root and restore. When she’s moving too fast, she makes a point to stop and listen to Oak Creek. Her love for education ignited when she joined Teach for America after undergraduate school, and she’s been surrounded by students and classrooms ever since. A few years spent in Latin America and a stint WWOOFing in Spain and Greece taught her to honor and advocate for our natural resources, especially food. You’ll find her experimenting in the kitchen, setting a beautiful table and enjoying the fellowship of family and friends…all while drinking a glass of Arizona wine.
Aster Rae has her Mom’s big eyes and fiery spark. She eats more garden tomatoes than anyone we know and wishes on every dandelion.
